What kind of LP collector are you?

Collecting LPs makes your music experience much more complete. The large-format covers, the lyric booklets, the fact that the record is an object you can touch—it all contributes to a sense of immersion. Above all, there's the quality of the analog audio, of course.

There are many different types of collectors, who build their collections in different ways. After all, it all depends on the type of music you enjoy, the budget you have, and your listening habits. We've compiled a list of some common collector types. Which do you identify with most?

CURATOR

You handpick your LPs and care more about the quality of your selection than the quantity. Your desired album list is very consistent. Maybe you're organizing your search for albums from a specific genre that you want to expand your collection. Or maybe you're just now looking to expand your discography of a specific artist.

ACCUMULATOR

You can't resist walking down the street and suddenly find an LP in a used record store or record fair. A crumpled cover might not be the biggest problem in the world. Your purchases can be a bit impulsive at times, but the important thing is that you always have a variety of music to enjoy.

AUDIOPHILE

You invested (or want to invest) in a super sound system because you enjoy hearing every detail of analog sound. If you buy a new record, you even know the factory where it was made. If you buy a used record, you take great care to ensure it's well-preserved. The quality of the master, the equalization of the equipment: you know that every detail matters when listening to music.

OCCASIONAL

You have a few records at home and listen to them when you have guests over or want to relax. For you, vinyl is a hobby, or simply something that feels good. It's nice to have a few LPs at home, along with your books; they're objects you care about. It's nice to put on a record and just enjoy it.

RARE HUNTER

If you want a record, you don't give up until you find it. Limited editions, shellac singles—the hardest records to get are the ones you love the most. You eagerly await the reissue of an out-of-print album. The money you manage to save goes toward some underground LP from the 1970s with a super small run, but one you've got it in your head that will be in your collection.

CONTEMPORARY

Your collection consists of recently pressed LPs, and you're passionate about the music being made today. You insist on having a physical record of what's happening. You closely follow the careers of your favorite artists and are always on the lookout for vinyl releases.

CLASSICS FAN

You collect LPs that have marked music history, most of which are decades old. You enjoy used records in good condition, but you're a sucker for reissues of legendary albums. In your opinion, music is like wine—age makes it better and better.

DJ

Your shelf is full of groove-filled LPs, carefully selected to create your sets . Variety and quantity are key, as is thoughtful curation. Your task is difficult, but it's worth it when you see the crowd enjoying themselves on the dance floor when you drop a rockin' tune.
