Afro-Brazilian Choral Singing

The Tincoãs

Axé! NRC excitedly announces the special edition of "Canto Coral Afrobrasileiro," a previously unreleased album by Os Tincoãs, recorded in 1983. The album comes with an exclusive cover and issue #138 of the magazine. The Bahian trio Os Tincoãs sings religious syncretism through Yoruba orikis and psalms, accompanied by the Rio de Janeiro Post and Telegraph Choir. Produced by Adelzon Gonçalves, with vocal arrangements by Leonardo Bruno and conducted by Armando Prazeres, the album also features the legendary Pedro Sorongo. Candomblé melodies are performed by the Bahian singers from Cachoeira, who, along with the choir, explore Black American gospel music in a gem of Afro-diasporic sound.
